Afrik.com Dominique de Villepin s’oppose aux allégations tenues à Dakar par l’actuel Président français. « Je suis critique vis-à-vis de la politique africaine de Nicolas Sarkozy », a-t-il indiqué, au micro de la radio Europe 1. Il a appelé à « tenir compte des réalités et des sensibilités », réaffirmant son désaccord concernant certains propos « tenus à Dakar sur l’homme africain qui n’entrerait pas suffisamment dans l’avenir ». L’ex-Premier ministre de Jacques Chirac a rappelé les efforts de ce dernier notamment avec la construction du Musée du Quai Branly précisant que « Nous sommes le pays qui (…) comprend sans doute le mieux aujourd’hui l’Afrique et l’aime le plus ».
De toute évidence, M. De Villepin ne paraît pas cautionner les propos du 26 juillet dernier. Et d’ajouter : « veillons à ne pas adresser des contre signaux à partir d’interprétations qui sont éminemment discutables ». Preuve qu’au sein de la même classe politique,- il faut tenir compte, bien sûr, des désaccords et intérêts de chacun - Nicolas Sarkozy a déçu, voire choqué, faisant du stéréotype et du cliché la ligne directrice de son discours. Ainsi déclarait-il, à Dakar, devant une assistance médusée : « Le paysan africain, qui depuis des millénaires, vit avec les saisons, dont l’idéal de vie est d’être en harmonie avec la nature, ne connaît que l’éternel recommencement du temps rythmé par la répétition sans fin des mêmes gestes et des mêmes paroles » avant de souligner que « dans cet imaginaire où tout recommence toujours, il n’y a de place ni pour l’aventure humaine, ni pour l’idée de progrès... »

Camec said that it had been "obliged" to take this decision because of uncertainty relating to the mining licence regime . The company has already appealed to the Minister of Mines against any potential revocation. "Should this appeal prove unsuccessful, Camec will initiate international arbitration proceedings against the government of the DRC, including its various agencies and all individuals personally involved, to recover any loss which it may suffer as a result of these actions," the company stated. In addition, Camec will take action against all agencies and individuals responsible for unlawful interference with Camec's economic interests. The company has been advised that it is entitled to continue working on the concession until the determination of the issue by a court.
Mineweb Andrew Groves, a Camec executive, formally stated that Camec had decided to withdraw its offer for Katanga Mining following consultation with George Forrest and "our other partners". Forrest, a long standing investor in the DRC, stands as the single largest shareholder in Katanga Mining, holding close to 25% of the stock. Forrest earlier entered a "soft lock up" agreement with Camec; i.e., Forrest left open his options to accepting a higher bid from another party. "
ReportOnBusiness CAMEC has offered 17 of its shares for each Katanga share that it doesn't already own. CAMEC has said previously that it owns 22 per cent of Katanga and shareholders with 32 per cent of Katanga's stock have agreed to tender to the offer. CAMEC shares fell to an all-time low of 27 pence (57 cents Canadian) in London on Wednesday, making its offer for Katanga currently worth about £4.59 per share. As recently as Aug. 29, before rumours surfaced that its licences were at risk, CAMEC shares traded at 48 pence or more.. Katanga shares closed Wednesday at the Toronto Stock Exchange at $20.70, up 5 cents from the previous close.

TheHerald By Isdore Guvamombe AIR Zimbabwe will ply the Harare-Kinshasa-Brussels route on Thursdays and Mondays in conjunction with the Democratic Republic of Congo national airline, LAC, from the end of this month.LAC has the licence to ply the Kinshasa-Brussels route but does not have planes to service it and Air Zimbabwe will provide the planes. Air Zimbabwe public relations manager Mr David Mwenga said the national airline also had to reschedule its flights to Angola and DRC in line with the new development. "We are introducing a new route, the Harare-Kinshasa-Brussels route, in which we will be using our Boeing 767. "We are obviously searching for extra foreign currency earnings."We want our flight on the new route to coincide with the European winter and this is why we have scheduled the first flight to the end of September."LAC has the licence to Brussels but they have no planes so we will use our planes and we will be in charge of the flights,’’ said Mr Mwenga. He said the previous Harare-Luanda-Kinshasa flight would be rescheduled to Harare-Luanda only while there will be a Harare-Kinshasa route.The new development comes hardly two months after Air Zimbabwe launched the Harare-Lusaka-Dubai and Harare-Lusaka-Gatwick routes. It comes also hardly three months after Air Zimbabwe reintroduced the Harare-Masvingo-Buffalo Range route to service the southern part of the country which includes the Great Zimbabwe National Monuments and the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park.
